Accomplishment and success are often the result of commitment
and perseverance rather than skill or talent
--George Van Valkenburg
Talent can be developed, gift is God-given. But artists have both. -Carroll O'Connor

When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking. -Albert Einstein

People ask for criticism, but they only want praise.

Being beaten is often a temporary condition, giving up is what makes it permanent.

The philosophy of the rich versus the poor is this:
The rich invest their money and spend what is left;
the poor spend their money and invest what's left.

I am not sure I agree with this one:
“Talent is commonly developed at the expense of character.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The crocheted blanket is mine. Each square takes about 40 minutes, and there's 70 squares. My Lil Sis is the proud owner. Last I heard, she locked it up, afraid to wear it coz it's beautiful and takes a lot of time to make. I have been telling her to enjoy it now and come what may. I don't know if she believed me.

I don't get this quote. Is it saying the poor are poor because they spend their money and only invest what is left?
Because if that is what the quote is saying, it's bullshit. They're poor because they make $5.50/hr doing crap jobs and they have to compete with the rich for decent housing and they have to pay for food and inflated transportation costs. Sometimes there is no money to save unless you want to give up a basic need to do it. What should they give up? Their luxurious 4-adults-to-a-room accomodations? Their sub-par childcare provided by auntie josephine for $10/day that lets them go to their jobs? Their bargain bin (or used) clothing? I'm anxious to see where this person thinks the saved money should come from.

Sounds like something a rich person would write.

JMO! Sorry to go off on whoever said that.

I wanted to add that this could be the difference between the middle class and the wealthy. I bet if we saved more we'd have a ton of money, but we live comfortably and save enough to feel comfortable about what is in savings.

But the truly poor, they have nothing to save.

It's really hard to be poor. There is not left over. Every resources goes towards what's needed.

I bet if anyone have extra, they'd save too...that is if they want. Saving is a choice if that presents as an option
